MARTIN
ADDICTION SPECIALIST COACH
ADHD & ASD COACH
DISABILITY RIGHTS ADVISER
WORKING WITH NARCISSISM
DIAGNOSED COMBINED ADHD
LOCATION ~ PL3
Martin is a strong advocate and supporter of people who have been marginalised in society especially those dealing with addiction, homelessness, abuse, modern day slavery and people trafficking. He understands the trauma behind each individual’s experiences and has identified that many of his clients have ASD, ADHD and PTSD. He sees how this has impacted on their lives and how it has led many individuals into being involved in the criminal justice system.
Martin has worked with a Criminal Justice Drug and Alcohol team as a specialist practitioner, supervisor and manager, supporting clients overall on their journey to recovery, including drug and alcohol related court orders. He has liaised with magistrates, judges and probation officers in order to increase understanding of issues that impact on clients and to help improve how they are viewed and treated by the system.
Through working in drug and alcohol services Martin supported many clients who had been diagnosed with personality disorders, and many who were victims of domestic violence or other forms of traumatic abuse. He has the ability to quickly establish rapport and build a therapeutic relationship with clients who have ‘fallen between the cracks’ and have not been able to access support of have dropped out due to the often inflexible approach of services.
In his experience of being a former trade union representative, Martin has good knowledge of the law around discrimination and equality and has represented clients in disciplinary and grievance cases. Martin continues to advocate for staff who are experiencing difficulties in the workplace.
Martin’s experiences working in the homeless sector has led to him forming strong working relationships with other support agencies including social care, solicitors and MPs, to help clients be accommodated and supported appropriately.
Martin was diagnosed recently with ADHD Combined type after realising for many years he had struggled at school and to retain regular employment, and also in his personal relationships. He recognises the traits of ADHD and ASD in other individuals, whether they are diagnosed or not and is able to empathise and see the world as they might see it.
Martin’s 15 year old son is diagnosed ASD and ADHD, with other related conditions, so he has a natural empathy for and understanding of clients and their families who are affected by both ADHD and ASD.
