Karen – Counsellor
Karen has a diagnosis of Combined Adult ADHD. She has a long family history of ADHD which has largely been either misdiagnosed or not diagnosed. Karen is mother to a 22 year old daughter.
After some years of changing careers, Karen began her training as a therapist 15 years ago. She works in a very holistic way, and whilst her degree is in integrative counselling theories, she has studied at Post Graduate level in the use of creativity and group work, for women in particular, with mental health concerns. She has studied the use of photo therapy as a creative technique for therapy.
Karen takes a very humanistic approach to therapy and believes that each individual is unique, and as such she works with clients from this perspective.
Karen is a member of Pink Therapy and has vast experience of working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. She has worked with pre and post operative transgender clients and identifies as a gay woman.
Karen is passionate about learning and keeps up to date with current research into ADHD, amongst other concerns to do with therapy and mental health. She feels that her own diagnosis has changed her life and allowed her to make sense of ‘herself’ after many years of receiving a diagnosis that just didn’t seem to fit her symptoms.
Karen is currently studying a certificate in Art Therapy.
