DIAGNOSED COMBINED ADHD & SON DIAGNOSED ASD

Stacey’s first encounter with therapy was at the age of 22. Her life up until this point had been dysfunctional to say the least following the loss of her mother to cancer when she was just 14. She found herself in a substance misuse residential treatment centre which literally in one fell swoop gave her life meaning and proved to be totally life changing.

On successfully completing treatment, Stacey knew exactly what career path she wanted to folllow and began her training in Counselling, Mental Health Support and Substance Misuse.

Stacey first qualified as a Youth Worker specialising in working with young people estranged from their families, some who were homeless, street workers, those who were considered safeguarding risks and others with mental health issues.

Following this Stacey decided that to make the biggest, most effective impact on young people the support needed to be in place for their families – to reduce risk, minimise harm, reduce or stop substance misuse in the home, increase family communication and improve quality of life for all family members. Stacey carried on training and gained extensive experience of facilitating Family Therapy, Couples Counselling and Family Mediation.

Stacey went on to specialise in working with Adults and Families, providing Advice, Counselling, Mediation, Family Therapy and other holistic practical support including Housing, Sexual Health, monitoring Substitute Prescribing, Referrals to Residential Treatment, accessing Funding for services and numerous other interventions always fighting hard to get her clients the support they needed.

Stacey has successfully created and managed services for clients with Complex Needs and has provided supervision to staff in substance misuse, counselling, mental health and care settings.

Stacey’s family life has been affected by cancer with the loss of both parents and her brother. This has given Stacey the passion to work with end-of-life clients and she has worked closely with palliative care services in the community to support people in their final months, weeks, days and hours.

Stacey has extensive personal and professional experience of Learning Disabilities. She herself is late-diagnosed with ADHD and her son is Diagnosed ASD with Neurological Blindness and Atopy.

Stacey has successfully fought the system (and it can be a fight) to ensure her sons’ needs are met.  This included a successful application for an EHCP, amendments to relevant sections in the EHCP and an application for Specialist Provision.

Stacey has recently qualified as a Holistic Life Coach and has completed Diplomas in SEND and ADHD to increase her knowledge and understanding from a professional perspective to better meet the needs of her clients.

Stacey is diagnosed with Fibromyalgia so she understands how invisible illnesses and disabilities can have an impact on life and how often they can be connected to ADHD.

Stacey is also a passionate supporter for parents dealing with challenging and sometimes frightening behaviour with their children. Stacey has immediate family experience of ADHD both Inattentive and Combined, ASD, blindness, eating disorders including anorexia, teenage anxiety and depression.

Stacey is now passionate about helping Headstuff’s clients with their ADHD and co-existing conditions. She has a passion for helping clients confused about their own mental health, or believing there is more going on than their current diagnosis, and will hold their hand on their own exploratory journeys to get the right diagnosis.
