DIAGNOSED DYSLEXIA & AWAITING ADHD AND ASD DIAGNOSIS
Bex is a Transformational Earth Coach who is passionate about helping neurodivergent clients conquer stress, burnout, overwhelm and disorganisation so that they can get back to being in control of their lives. Harnessing the power of nature, Bex literally nurtures clients back to thriving!
As a neurodivergent, Bex fully understands and believes in working with both the mind and body, the importance of pacing and the huge benefits of regularly connecting with nature. Bex has seen the immense advantages of working this way when helping neurodivergent and chronically ill clients take more control of their lives. Earth Coaching has incredible results when dealing with overwhelm, decision-making, procrastination, burnout, stress and being stuck.
Bex has an allotment – with accompanying hens – and grows a wide variety of food. Bex has found this to be a successful way of finding peace in nature and coping with sensory overload and stress. Helping clients work out what will help them best is Bex’s goal.
As a youngster, Bex felt different to other children – being slow to complete school work, struggling with handwriting and spelling, becoming easily distracted and often failing to see the point of a task unless a teacher explained why it was necessary. Or unless it was art, music, drama, outdoors, climbing trees, planting seeds and studying bugs! Socially, Bex had very different interests to other children and often found it much easier to make friends with older children and adults.
Bex was finally diagnosed with dyslexia whilst studying of all things – a degree in languages! But dyslexia still didn’t quite explain all of the challenges that kept cropping up in life: extreme fatigue, sensory processing issues, daydreaming, anxiety, hyperfocus, needing a very structured routine, being unable to switch off or feel ‘good enough’, struggling to finish boring tasks, emotional dysregulation and having far more hobbies than anyone else!
Extensive reading and research on different conditions led Bex to have the light bulb moment – AuDHD ticked every single box. Even so, Bex went on to get four university degrees and a coaching diploma, which along with overworking to avoid overthinking, made Bex realise that imposter syndrome and perfectionism were previously two of the main hurdles in life! Thankfully, Bex has been able to overcome these challenges and now helps clients struggling with not feeling good enough and imposter syndrome.
Before becoming a Transformational Earth Coach, Bex worked as a secondary school teacher, university tutor and academic researcher. Bex’s chosen PhD (University of Nottingham) investigated how ‘belonging’ and ‘home’ are represented in cinema. Bex’s own fascination with this topic began by finding it difficult to fit into society due to being neurodivergent, LGBTQIA, and non-binary and feeling there were very few representations in media that reflected them.
Over the past few years, Bex has become fascinated with the hugely positive impact that decluttering and organisation of the home and workplace can have on the mind and body. If you are someone who is constantly losing things and spends way too much time looking, or are desperately wanting to organise your space so that everything has a home where it belongs, then Bex would very much like to help you.
As a coach, Bex uses the coaching session for the client to explore their inner world. The coaching sessions are a healing and transformative time where you can realise and come to terms with any blocks and also reassess boundaries, values and goals. Bex has the ability to help you explore areas of your life through art, music, poetry or photography to reduce the chaos by introducing calming moments through gardening, meditation or mindfulness. Bex runs ‘Grow your own Mindfulness’ and meditation courses, as well as outdoor self-development workshops which can be utilised with clients one-to-one.
Bex’s coaching style is based on:
1. Existentialism – what it means to exist in this current world,
2. Mindfulness – being aware of where you are in life and if you are judging yourself about your current life situation
3. Permaculture – meeting your needs whilst developing ecologically harmonious, efficient and productive systems, pacing yourself, using the arts and connecting with the natural world.
Bex is passionate about nature, life-long learning and the arts, allowing you to explore more freely, creatively and sustainably the areas important to you – including self-acceptance, self-discovery and creative, therapeutic problem-solving – so you can feel more in control of your life. Bex mainly works with neurodivergent clients who long for more creative or nature connections in their lives. Many clients also identify as disabled, chronically ill and/or LGBTQ+.
Coaching can be done via Google Meet or, if you live within a commutable distance of any SS postcodes, in person – either indoors or outdoors!
Bex is a Full Member of The Association for Coaching and regularly participates in Animas Centre for Coaching Continued Professional Development.
As an experienced coach, Bex also supervises neurodivergent and chronically ill coaches, plus neurotypical coaches working with neurodivergent and chronically ill clients.
As someone who is passionate about portfolio work for neurodivergent clients, Bex is also a poet, singer-songwriter and artist and dedicates a full day per week to creative pursuits.
