DIAGNOSED ADHD

Diagnosed with ADHD in 2022, Emma embarked on a path of self-discovery and deep understanding of both her and her neurodiverse children.  This journey, characterised by patience, advocacy, and an unwavering quest for support through the intricate EHCP process, has transformed her.  Emma’s experiences have not only forged her into a strong advocate for neurodiversity and recovery from addiction but also given her some unique insights into the associated challenges and advantages.

Emma’s early years were fraught with academic struggles and social isolation, further exacerbated by a misdiagnosis of dyslexia and insufficient support.  Though these challenges were formidable, they laid the groundwork for a future of resilience and self-awareness.  It was a significant relationship—teaching her resilience more than romance—that catalysed Emma’s journey towards deep self-reflection and transformative change.

Confronted with personal adversities such as an eating disorder and her partner’s addiction, Emma turned to exercise for solace and empowerment.  Initially a therapeutic outlet, it evolved into a crucial lesson in balance and self-care.  Engaging with support networks like AA for her husband and Al-Anon for herself,  Emma underwent a significant transformation in her outlook.  Motivated by this journey of healing and self-exploration, she was inspired to seek a counselling qualification, fuelled by a passion to assist others and fully embrace life.

Emma’s journey into counselling unveiled a unique viewpoint, sculpted by her ADHD diagnosis and acceptance of her neurodiverse qualities.  This heightened self-awareness sparked transformative change, improving her advocacy for herself and her children.  It also enriched her counselling approach with empathy, innovation and creative thinking.

Emma’s therapy spans addiction recovery, intertwining her personal experiences with her professional work in addiction organisations.  With a deep understanding of the losses and victories in recovery, she recognises the profound need for empathy, hope, and a journey back to self-identity among those she helps.

Emma fervently believes in the right of every individual to embrace and celebrate their uniqueness, seeing diversity as a catalyst for empowerment and growth.  This conviction is more than a principle for Emma; it is a reality she lives by.  Her proactive stance against the educational system’s shortcomings, especially in defending her daughter against the unfair label as the ‘naughty child’, demonstrates her dedication to driving positive change and the impactful support she offers.

Over a decade of navigating her husband’s recovery journey and advocating for her children’s educational rights has endowed Emma with priceless insights.  Her counselling and coaching philosophy is deeply anchored in an understanding of neurodiversity, a commitment to authentic relationships, and an intense eagerness to support individuals on their paths to self-discovery and growth.

Emma is a busy mum, balancing farm life, 3 neurodiverse children, a household of animals, a small holding of sheep, she also has a love for being outdoors, walking and making memories.

Emma offers early morning sessions which can be fitted in before your workday.
