DIAGNOSED COMBINED ADHD, DYSLEXIA, DYSPRAXIA AND DYSCALCULIA
Nadine has both personal and professional experience of neurodiversity. She was diagnosed aged 39 with Combined ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia. She had attended University seven times and never managed to get beyond the first year until she was diagnosed but she has now (finally!) graduated after eventually receiving the support she needed to achieve in an academic environment.
Nadine has tried and sees the benefits of ADHD medication but is also a fan of the ‘holistic approach’ and now uses cold water therapy, diet and exercise to manage her own ADHD symptoms. She recognises that self-care is so needed to support her and her clients’ well-being and mental health.
Before being diagnosed she never really understood the person she was and always felt in some way different to her peers and colleagues. At 39 and with her diagnoses’ in place, everything started to make sense and life suddenly seemed less of a challenge now there was a reason for her thoughts and behaviours.
In therapy, Nadine uses a Pluralistic approach with her clients meaning her counselling tools will be uniquely used to suit you, your own story and the way you want your therapy to be.
She has most recently been working with the NHS Employee Wellbeing service and for a Drug and Alcohol agency.
She has a wealth of experience gained over the past 25 years with a large variety of clients including young offenders and their families. She also has also helped client adults and child domestic violence survivors, sexual violence survivors, Gypsy and traveller children.
Nadine has both personal and professional experience with neurodivergent children. Her youngest son went through his ADHD assessment aged nine and Nadine worked with an Educational Psychologist to secure the right support for his educational needs. She is happy to support parents going through this process.
She also loves working with child clients of 10 and above to help them understand what is going on in their bodies and to help learn to express themselves in a Neurotypical world.
Nadine’s daughters are both neurodiverse. Her older daughter has body dysmorphia and OCD with extreme perfectionism bringing challenges in the family home.
Her early-teens daughter has sensory difficulties and anxiety when away from the home environment. She also has Emetophobia – the fear of vomit, something Nadine has too so she’s happy to support clients or children with these issues.
Nadine feels it is important ‘to be able to be exactly who she wants to be’ and have the opportunity to embrace her life fully which she enjoys helping clients do too. She recognises the challenges that come with having ADHD added to which she personally is currently working towards a Masters in Psychology, working part-time at the same same time as being mother to two daughters and two sons ranging in age from 9 to 21!
She is personally aware of life’s daily challenges living with many different personalities and traits of ADHD, especially under one roof and how overwhelming managing a family home can be at times. As a parent, she can understand the stress and triggers within the home and she loves supporting parents who may be feeling overwhelmed themselves.
She is passionate about supporting all clients with ADHD and also family members who often need support as well.
Nadine is passionate about her clients gaining knowledge and support. She wants to help clients fully understand their condition and enable them to move forward in life – accepting that it is okay to see the world differently to neurotypicals.
She hopes to enable clients to embrace their true authentic selves. Sessions can be guided by the client or the client can ask for guidance – what ever works best for the individual. Nadine is aware that trying to make decisions can often be hard work and the ADHD world can be chaotic so sessions can be used to build strategies and techniques to support life in general and to cope better with those challenges.
Nadine is passionate about supporting and tailoring her sessions around the individual’s needs. She enjoys using therapy within a nature setting, walking and talking therapy and she also has two golden retriever registered Therapy Dogs who can support clients during sessions.
